The Crepes Suzette is to die for. The staff is always so wonderful and the view is a dream!!!! A must stop while in Gandria!

My boyfriend and I took a trip across Italy and Switzerland last week, and our last stop was at Ristorante Antico in Garnia (Lugano) on 8/7. After driving for over eight hours, we were very much looking forward to checking into our room, eating, showering, and going out to explore the city. When we drove into the town, I called the hotel inquire about where to park and the exact location of the hotel. The guy on the phone refused to help and told me that I must be mistaken, as we didn't have a reservation for that night. Luckily, we had printed the email that Calogero sent us, confirming our room for that night, 8/7 (which he also confirmed on the phone), so we just hung up and decided to find the hotel ourselves.

When we got there, the Calogero said we didn't have a reservation that night and that their three rooms were totally booked, shrugged his shoulders, and went back to working in the restaurant. Tired and frustrated, we tried to get the staff to help us, explaining to them that we had just driven hours to get there, based on our twice confirmed reservation, and we showed them the email, signed by the Calogero. Basically, we were ignored for about an hour, and it took us making a scene in the restaurant until anyone would talk to us. To quiet us down, they sat us at a table in the corner and gave us each a Coke, promising to find a resolution shortly. Well, we were ignored again (there were about five people working in the restaurant, and they were focused only on taking orders, serving tables, cooking, etc., and were literally ignoring us!) and sat there waiting for another 45 minutes.

Eventually, they told us that the owner's wife must have made the reservation (even though the email confirmation was signed by the owner), and that she bmade a mistake and there was nothing they could do. We spent the entire evening trying to get them to at least find us a room anywhere in the city of Garnia or Lugano. The room we had reserved was a waterfront double room, right on the lake, and at this point, we didn't care if we stayed in a closet. It was late, we were tired and hungry, and we just wanted to get a room, any room. In the end, they did not find a room for us, never once apologized for the situation, were very rude, and basically dismissed us. By the way, we are normal, nice, clean cut people - it is not like we are belligerent, have leprosy or haven't showered in months - although they certainly treated us as if this was the case.

All hotels in Gandria and Lugano were totally booked, and we ended up having to use our Blackberries to locate one in a remote location outside of Lugano, paid a fortune for it, and didn't get there until almost midnight. Our original plan was to check into Ristorante Antico, take the ferry to Lugano (something we were very much looking forward to), explore the city, come back, and leave early in the morning for Germany. Well, after this debacle, all we did was find a new hotel, go to bed, and leave the next day.

I can honestly tell you that I have NEVER written a negative review on the internet for any establishment in my life. In this case, I felt it was necessary, as I would hate for someone else to have their vacation ruined or be treated this way. Remember, if you book at Ristorante Antico, even if they adamantly confirm your reservation over the phone, and in writing, it will hold not ground when you arrive. If you want to stay there, I would only advise it if you are already in town and it is a last resort option, but counting on the reservation in advance can be a disaster. Also, they will tell you there is parking five minutes away - this is paid parking that was full the entire time we were in the city. The best (and probably only) way to get there is to pay to park in Lugano and take the ferry.

Se un giorno si consideri arrivato mangiare al ristorante antico aconcelho-pensare due volte.
è un ristorante senza qualsiasi organizzazione di cui non ha rispetto per chiunque, trattare i dipendenti come animali. alcune volte e le prenotazioni sono confermate dopo i clienti arrivano e considerano la camera che riservati ja affittato ad altri. i clienti sono gestiti in modo diverso ogni buon mangiare altri detriti. Ancora una volta riflettere bene prima di uscire di casa.........

Il mio ragazzo e ho preso un viaggio attraverso l'Italia e la Svizzera la settimana scorsa, e la nostra ultima fermata era al Ristorante Antico in Garnia (Lugano) su 8/7. Dopo la Guida per più di otto ore, siamo stati molto lieti di verifica nella nostra stanza, mangiare, fare la doccia e andando a esplorare la città. Quando ci ha spinto in città, ho chiamato l'albergo indagare su dove al parco e l'esatta ubicazione dell'hotel. Il ragazzo al telefono si rifiutò di aiutare e mi ha detto che devo essere confusi, come non abbiamo avuto una prenotazione per quella notte. Per fortuna, noi avevamo stampato l'email che ci, confermando la nostra sala per quella notte, 8/7 (che ha anche confermato il telefono) inviato Calogero, in modo che abbiamo appena appeso e ha deciso di trovare l'hotel noi stessi.

Quando siamo arrivati, il Calogero ha detto che non abbiamo avuto una prenotazione che notte e che loro tre camere sono state completamente prenotate, si strinse nelle spalle e tornò a lavorare nel ristorante. Stanco e frustrati, abbiamo cercato di ottenere il personale per aiutarci, spiegando loro che abbiamo avuto solo guidate ore per ottenere là, basato sulla nostra prenotazione confermata due volte e li abbiamo mostrato l'email, firmato dal Calogero. Fondamentalmente, noi siamo stati ignorati per circa un'ora, e ci sono voluti noi fare una scena nel ristorante fino a chiunque sarebbe parlare con noi. Per noi tranquilla verso il basso, essi ci seduto a un tavolo nell'angolo e ciascuno di noi ha dato un coke, promettendo di trovare una risoluzione breve. Bene, noi siamo stati ignorati nuovamente (c'erano circa cinque persone che lavorano nel ristorante, ed essi erano concentrati solo su prendendo gli ordini, a che serve nelle tabelle, cottura, ecc. e sono stati letteralmente ignorando noi!) e satellitare lì aspettando un altro 45 minuti.

Alla fine, ci hanno detto che la moglie del proprietario deve aver fatto la prenotazione (anche se l'email di conferma è stata firmata dal proprietario) e che lei bcreato un errore e non c'era niente che possa fare. Abbiamo trascorso la serata intera, cercando di farli almeno ci trovate una camera in un punto qualsiasi nella città di Garnia o Lugano. Camera che noi avevamo riservato è stato un litorale r doppia

I think that Ristorante Antico is the best restaurant in Gandria.

The staff has always been helpful, friendly and kindly with me and my family (I have 2 children). Rooms are very warm and clean.

Finally, in Ristorante Antico i ate the best italian cuisine...

What else??? Go and try it!!!!! It will be a pleasent experience!

Ps: to Anonymous: i'm sorry that you lived an unpleasent experience!
I advise you to back there again, certainly will be batter!
